Calorie Steve is an AI-powered calorie tracking and nutrition coaching app designed to help users log meals, estimate calories, view progress, and receive practical coaching.

Calorie Steve uses OpenAI to analyze meal descriptions, food photos, and nutrition-related chat requests. When you send a chat message or submit a food photo for analysis, that content (the message text or photo, along with any directly related context such as your calorie goals or coaching preferences needed to generate a relevant response) is sent through the Calorie Steve backend, hosted on Cloudflare, to OpenAI so the app can generate calorie estimates, food analysis, and coaching responses.
Before sending chat messages or photos to the AI service, Calorie Steve asks for your permission in the app. You can decline, and you should not submit information or photos that you do not want processed for this purpose. If you decline, AI-dependent features such as chat coaching and photo analysis will not be available, but you may still use the app's manual logging features.
If you choose to upload a food photo, the photo is used only to estimate calories and provide nutrition-related feedback, and only after you grant permission as described above. Photos are only used when you choose to submit them for analysis.
The app uses an anonymous app user ID (not tied to your name or contact information) to apply usage limits and sync Premium entitlements across your devices. Subscription purchases are handled by Apple StoreKit, and subscription status may be validated through Apple's App Store Server APIs.

We retain app data for as long as needed to provide the app's features, maintain your calorie history, support your subscription or premium access, comply with legal obligations, resolve technical issues, and improve the app.

Some information may need to be retained when required for legal, security, billing, or operational reasons.
